Board of Education of the Union-Endicott Central School District v. New York State Public Employment Relations Board

Mount Sinai Union Free School District v. Board of Education Port Jefferson Public Schools

Mount Sinai and Port Jefferson School Districts had a long-standing contract for Mt. Sinai to send its high school students to Port Jefferson. Following a deterioration of relations and an increase in Mt. Sinai's student population, Mt. Sinai decided to build its own high school. New York Education Law § 3014-c was enacted, requiring sending districts to consider teachers from receiving districts as their own employees. Mt. Wappingers Central School District v. Public Employment Relations Board

Lindsay ex rel. Lindsay v. South San Antonio Independent School District

In March 1996, the South San Antonio Independent School District terminated Ruth Lindsay's teaching contract. After the Commissioner of Education affirmed her termination, Lindsay committed suicide. Her brother, Sam, appealed the decision, but the district court dismissed the appeal due to Lindsay's death, citing a lack of jurisdiction. The appellate court examined whether a public school teacher's appeal of termination survives their death.
